About New Student Orientation : Coyote Connections

It is strongly encouraged of new students and encouraged for those students who are coming back to YCCC after a long break. NSO sessions occur just before the start of each semester (fall, spring, summer).

NSO sets students up for success as they begin their education at YCCC. Data shows that students who attend NSO not only progress to graduation more successfully, but their overall GPAs are higher.

At NSO you will:

  • meet key staff members and resources
  • meet other new students
  • chat with faculty
  • receive an introduction to YCCC electronic communication tools
  • learn the basics of utilizing Blackboard
  • understand the role of advising in your student success
  • get acquainted with campus safety and student involvement options
  • receive a YCCC thumb drive loaded with the Student Handbook and New Student Guidebook

CHANGES for 2016-2017
Attention Students! The Maine Community College System is no longer able to access a health insurance plan for its students at an affordable cost and, as a result, MCCS will not offer a student health insurance plan or require students to provide proof of insurance as a condition of enrollment for the 2016-17 academic year. The MCCS plan currently in effect will expire on July 31, 2016. If you are currently enrolled in this plan, you will have a 60 day window to obtain new coverage on the Exchange. If you miss the window, you will have to wait until January 2017 to enroll in a plan on the Exchange or purchase short term insurance to cover you in the interim.
