Foreign Student Admissions Policies

Uploaded image    Foreign Student Proof of U.S. High School Diploma Equivalency:

Eligible non-citizens who have graduated high school in a foreign country must provide proof that the foreign country's diploma is equivalent to a U.S. high school diploma. This requires documentation from that foreign country's government or an approved U.S. accrediting agency outlining what constitutes the U.S. high school equivalency. The YCCC Admissions Office will provide a list of required foreign country graduation requirements that the student must obtain in order to be accepted at YCCC as well as a list of approved U.S. document evaluation agencies.

Foreign Students Seeking an F-1 Student Visa:

Here are the steps than an international student seeking an F-1 student visa must take to begin the F-1 process. This process may take 3-6 months depending upon whether the visa application is new or if the student is requesting a change of status from another visa type.

1) Submit the online application at www.yccc.edu

2) Provide proof of U.S. high school equivalency  The YCCC Admissions Office will provide a list of U.S. high school equivalency requirements as well as a list of approved U.S. document evaluation agencies. (see foreign student proof of U.S. high school diploma equivalency above)

3) Submit TOEFL scores to prove English proficiency (www.toefl.org) If the applicant is in Maine, we will administer the Accuplacer placement test.

4) Submit a bank letter showing proof of finances  The student must show that he or she has at least $14,000 in U.S. funds available for the academic year.($6000 equates to out of state tuition and $8000 equates to living expenses for the year since F-1 students cannot work off-campus during the first year of the visa).
